Chelsea Sign Saul On Loan From Atletico Madrid

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the signing of midfielder Saul Niguez on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea agreed to pay €4million on transfer deadline day, with an option to make the deal permanent next summer for £30 million.

The Blues were linked with the Spain international a couple of days ago but had to leave it late on Tuesday night.

Right after joining the English side, the 26-year-old said he is excited about this challenge and insists he cannot wait to wear the iconic blue shirt.

'I am very excited to start this new challenge with Chelsea. Blues fans, I am one of you now and I can’t wait to wear the shirt, start training and see all of you. See you soon,” Saul told the club’s official website.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia labeled Saul as a ‘proven winner’ and welcomed him to West London.

‘We welcome Saul to the Club and believe he completes our squad as we compete for honours in five different competitions this season. He is a proven winner, a player with huge experience and we know he will be very well-suited to the challenges that face us on all fronts in the coming year,” she said.

Saul spent his entire senior career at Atletico Madrid, having joined the Rojiblancos academy from Real Madrid youth.

He enjoyed a year loan spell at another capital team Rayo Vallecano during the 2013/2014 season.

The Spaniard played 447 matches in all competitions for Atletico Madrid, scored 53 goals, and won the Europa League twice, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish and UEFA Super Cups and one La Liga title.
